2020 has been a particularly arduous year for us all, from the outbreak of a worldwide pandemic that has taken the lives of 1.4 million people and whose effects have threatened to cripple global economies, to uprisings against racial injustice and police brutality. Our resilience has been put to the test.
In a demonstration of the power of collective action and intelligence, this year has also seen communities rallying together to solve problems in their localities. Ushahidi has been used in most global crises since its inception in 2008, and in 2020, we witnessed communities around the world reaching out to us to be a part of the solution. In the last ten months, we have seen individuals and organisations alike deploy the Ushahidi platform over 1,400 times, in 120 countries. These communities have been creating visibility into where to access critical resources and services, filling informational gaps for official response, and holding governments accountable for their response to the pandemic.
Earlier this year, we decided to slash the pricing of our hosted service. We have since resolved to waive the fees as part of our COVID-19 response, to lower barriers of access to the technology tools that communities need to fight for social justice and enact social change. We want to make sure that everyone, regardless of their financial ability, has access to tools to solve problems in their communities.
Today, on Giving Tuesday, we’re launching a new way to support Ushahidi’s work that is directly tied to the impact our deployers create on the ground. We’ve partnered with Momentum, to create a new donation page: https://give.ushahidi.com, which enables our supporters to donate on a recurring basis. You can now tie your donations to the number of reports collected and published on Ushahidi maps.
By donating, you will be helping Ushahidi continue to freely provide technology tools that better support our users to accelerate their impact and enable us to reach more vulnerable communities, in areas with lower literacy levels and low connectivity.
Your support will go a long way in helping us support thousands of organisations using Ushahidi for crisis response, human rights protection and advocacy, environmental justice, good governance and integrity in elections.
Consider making a donation to Ushahidi, and together, let’s support those working to create a meaningful impact in their communities.
Thank you for your continued support.
